RE: President Bush's 5/15/2006 Speech The speech was politically correct and said all the right things: 1) Fence 2) Control the border with Border Patrol and National Guard short term. 3) Read and write English 4) A method for long term illegals to attain citizenship 5) Counterfeit proof ID. 6) You can not mass deport all the illegals. 7) Illegals are hard workers.
However: 1) I am not convinced that Guest worker is not synonymous with amnesty. Nothing was said about not using an anchor baby to cheat.
2) An ID is worthless if the only applicants required to use it are illegal aliens. Hello !! connect the dots. All an employee has to do is say he is not illegal and he doesn't have to present an ID.
Everyone should have and use a counterfeit proof ID. Just subcontract it to the Visa/MasterCard system who already has the equipment and system in place in every employers office. 45 days tops and they have it working for everyone.
3) It should not be a comprehensive package. The American public does not trust congress to require meat and potatoes before desert. Unless Control the border has been executed, not just promised don't even talk about dealing with the illegals already here.
4) Nothing was said about abolishing sanctuary status and punishing cities that offer it.
I have difficulty believing that President Bush was sincere. It sounded too much like Hillary just saying what she thought her audience wanted to hear. If the President had Tom Tancredo standing beside him I might have given it credence. It will take many speeches and ACTION to convince me it is real.
President Bush will need to fight with the Senate and House to get a workable package rather than saying let the senate figure out the details. "Senate" was a bad choice of words as their plan was all "Amnesty" and no control. If Pres. Bush had said let the "House" figure out the details "Control" would have been the key word.
Have you forgotten why we are in Iraq? If 9/11 is just an old memory, please take a few moments and view this short Tribute to 911 . Or, here is a trailer for United 93 . Are you upset about the tragic loss of life of our young soldiers in Iraq? Perhaps a little perspective is in order. Do the Dumb Libs have you convinced Iraq is another Vietnam? We lost 56,000 young men in Vietnam and far more in WWII. In Vietnam, Korea and WWII we lost 15, 30 and 213 per day respectively! The loss of every Soldier, Marine and Iraqi is tragic individually, just as were the 130 women beheaded by Sadam in the 11 months prior to his removal. When compared in a macro sense to the average 100,000 murders per year under Sadam and the unknown number US Citizens saved by domestic terrorist events prevented since 9/11 the Iraqi effort was prudent.
Picture lifted from The Truth About Iraq.. Please pay the site a visit. I received the following letter from a colleague this morning that I must share........... To my family & friends, It
being Christmas and all, I’d like to share with you something that’s been on
my mind the last couple of days. On
Tuesday of this week I was returning from a short business trip to Little Rock,
Arkansas and was moving through the crowded airport toward the baggage
claim. As
I walked I kept noticing soldiers dressed in desert fatigues carrying their
duffle bags. I saw two soldiers, a
woman and a man, riding the power carts and both had casts on their legs and
bandages on their arms. I assumed they were coming from Iraq based on their
uniforms and the injuries. As
I stepped onto a train to go to the main terminal I noticed a nice looking
soldier near the front of the trolley, on his name tag it said “Good”, his
last name. As the train stopped and
we moved toward the exit, he and I came close as we stepped out, so I said to
him, “young man, thank you very much for what you do”. He thanked me and we headed toward the escalator. He was up
ahead and suddenly he turned around to me and said, “Sir, thank you for what
you said, it really does mean a lot to us”. Notice the “us”; this is
someone who is a part of a very unique and elite group of brothers and
sisters. Before
I could say anything, we were at the top and we parted.
I had a lump in my throat and my eyes started to mist a bit. This
young soldier is one of thousands of the very best our country has to offer. I
was proud to just have a moment of his time and chance to let him know that most
of his countrymen respect and love him for keeping us safe. So
for me this holiday season, I intend to stop for a moment on Christmas Day, the
day I celebrate my faith and the birth of our savior and thank him for a soldier
named Good and for every other warrior who has the courage and the continued
commitment to keeping this great country of ours safe and free. So
